From birth to the age of seven, children learn social, emotional, behavioural and cognitive skills that set the foundation for academic success. A child who doesn’t receive the correct stimulation in these early years of life is often unable to reach his or her full potential.
Research shows that poor nutrition at this age is also linked to poor educational performance, as a child’s brain is unable to reach developmental milestones.
Through the Indlela Learning for Life Programme working into primary schools in Amaoti, it became clear that a pattern of poor preparation for school readiness was impacting the ability of children to reach their academic potential.
The objective of this programme is to improve
the quality of early childhood education in
creches or ECD (Early Childhood Development)
Centres by focusing on key areas:
Developmental
To meet the nutritional, cognitive and educational needs of
children in their formative years.
Spiritual
To develop the spiritual awareness in each child of the love of
Jesus Christ.
Sustainability
To assist in making crèches sustainable businesses affecting
lasting economic and educational impact in the community. |
